  • Deciduous understory tree; slow growing; 15-25ft tall on average, but can occasionally reach up to 40ft

  • Dioecious; greenish-yellow raceme flowers fruit as green samaras; blooms in spring; leaves becomes bright yellow in fall

  • White stripes on bark and branches, hence the common name “striped maple;” porcupines, moose, deer, rabbits, and beaver eat the bark, especially in winter

  • Spring blooms are an important early season pollen source for native bees; also attracts various butterflies and moths, including the Imperial Moth
