NJ Ecotype (Grown from Seed)

*Seedling stock expected by 2026

  • Deciduous shrub; 2-3ft tall

  • Monoecious; white oval clusters of flowers bloom in spring; foliage turns a slight yellowish brown in autumn

  • Pollen and nectar attract a wide variety of pollinators and predatory insects beneficial for pest control including miner bees, plasterer bees, sweat bees, thread-waisted wasps, vespid wasps, spider wasps, flies, and beetles

  • Host plant to numerous skippers, butterflies and moths including Spring Azure, Mottled Duskywing, Summer Azure, Red-Fronted Emerald, and more

  • Due to its low-growth habit, makes for a nice flowering ground cover among taller species; thrives in dry soils and full sun; drought tolerant; returns some nitrogen back into the soil; difficult to transplant due to its woody roots
