Poverty Oat Grass

Grown from seed

  • Perennial bunchgrass; 12in tall

  • Cool season grass; low tufts of blue-green leaves curl golden-brown in autumn

  • Deep roots prevent soil erosion; great for stabilizing slopes; thrives in poor soils

  • Low growing tendency makes for an excellent ground cover; acts as green mulch for nearby taller plants by cooling soil & outcompeting weeds

  • Host plant to Leonard’s Skipper and the Indian Skipper

  • Foliage attracts various grasshoppers; flowers attract butterflies & skippers; seeds attract ground-nesting birds & small mammals

  • Spreads slowly via small rhizomes
