Nodding Fescue

Grown from seed

  • Perennial, cool season fescue; 2-3ft tall

  • Thin, wispy green grass with greenish-brown spikelets of flowers which emerge in early spring

  • Naturally found in rich, moist hardwood forests; thrives in partial to full shade; good grass species for shade and woodland gardens

  • Host plant for caterpillars of the Indian Skipper

  • Foliage is palatable to livestock, including horses, sheep & cattle; some songbirds and small mammals forage on seeds

  • Spreads slowly, primarily through self-seeding
