Dudley’s Rush

Grown from seed

  • Perennial, cool season rush; 1-2ft tall

  • Thin clumps of low-growing green blades with gold spikes of flowers which emerge in spring

  • Due to its height, makes for excellent ground cover; acts as green mulch for nearby taller plants by cooling soil & outcompeting weeds

  • Naturally occurs in moist meadows, fens, and swales; a good species for rain gardens, bioswales, and drainage stabilization

  • Various insects eat the foliage including moths, leaf beetles, and billbugs; small mammals and waterbirds, including various ducks and rails, forage on seeds in fall/winter

  • Spreads somewhat aggressively in ideal conditions via rhizomes and seeds
