Path Rush

PA Ecotype (grown from seed)

  • Perennial, cool season rush; 6-12in tall

  • Thin clumps of low-growing green blades with gold spikes of flowers which emerge in spring

  • Due to its height, makes for excellent ground cover; acts as green mulch for nearby taller plants by cooling soil & outcompeting weeds

  • Can withstand some foot traffic alongside walking paths; thrives in compacted, wet soils making it a good species for rain gardens, bioswales, and drainage stabilization

  • Songbirds, game birds, and small mammals forage on seeds in fall/winter

  • Spreads via rhizomes and sticky seeds (by clinging to animal fur and shoes)
