Northern Red Oak

NJ Ecotype (grown from seed)

*Seedling stock expected by 2026

  • Deciduous hardwood tree; fast growing; 50-75ft tall on average as a specimen tree, but can reach up to 100ft in forests

  • Monoecious; yellow, green catkin flowers; blooms mid to late spring

  • Acorns take two years to develop on tree before dropping; incredible source of food for deer, small mammals and birds (blue jays, woodpeckers, etc.)

  • Native oaks are host plants to over 500 species of butterflies & moths

  • Mature oaks absorb large amounts of pollutants from the air & toxins from groundwater; can reduce utility bills for heat (windbreak) and air-conditioning (shade); large roots can reduce flooding via water storage
