Wild Senna

NJ Ecotype (grown from seed)

  • Herbaceous perennial legume; 3-6ft tall (drier conditions result in shorter plants)

  • Yellow/orange flowers grow in branching clusters; blooms midsummer

  • Attracts large numbers of pollinators especially bumblebees and halictid bees; attracts predatory insects such as lady beetles, predatory wasps, and ants

  • Gamebirds such as wild turkey and quail feed on its seed in late summer and fall

  • Reseeds readily via both seed dispersal and rhizomes

  • Host plant to numerous sulphur butterflies and the Black Witch Moth

  • Highly beneficial to the soil, this nitrogen fixer grows well in nutrient deficient sites and stablizes erosion
