NJ Ecotype (grown from seed)

  • Herbaceous perennial; 1-4ft tall

  • Blue flowers with yellow centers that, once pollinated, turn purple; blooms late summer to fall

  • Incredible late season pollen and nectar source for pollinators including bumblebees, sweat bees, miner bees, butterflies, skippers, and moths

  • Attracts insects beneficial to biological pest control such as leaf beetles, solitary wasps, and predatory stink bugs

  • Birds (goldfinches, chickadees, juncos, etc.) and small mammals feed on its seed in fall and winter

  • Forms small colonies via rhizomes and spreads readily by seed
